Joyful Inclusion at Meru School for Children with Special Needs
Led by: Sarah Adut Makender & Bakhita Josephine Taban Luka
AGF University Scholars
As part of their Leadership Level 2 journey, Sarah and Bakhita organized a community outreach initiative at Meru School for Autistic and Mentally Challenged Children. Together with fellow students, they created a day of connection through games, music, drawing, and dance, supported the school with basic supplies, and helped clean the school compound. The project focused on dignity, joy, and inclusion — demonstrating that leadership is expressed through presence, compassion, and practical action.

I have always found the greatest joy in working with children; their laughter and energy remind us of the simple power of happiness. I believe that happiness can lift people out of the mental spaces or struggles they may be going through, even if just for a moment. A better community begins with our presence—showing up, caring, and including everyone. The future of Africa cannot be built if people are barely surviving today. That is why we must ensure no one is left behind, and everyone is valued. Together, through love, inclusion, and action, we can make a difference.- Sarah
I truly appreciate the visit and the interaction with the children because it’s a sign of love, care, and responsibility. It’s my duty as a young African woman to encourage others and to grow together as one. I love children, and working with the community is the best thing I have ever liked. Seeing the smile on their little faces is worthwhile to the AGF. I'm grateful for your support and the intuition. - Bakhita
